A Retreat to Reconnect with Your True Self
Zen Retreat Nagiumi-an

In the Port Town of Minamishimabara, Where Nanban Trade Once Flourished
Nagiumi-an, a Place to Experience a Zen Retreat

Have you been putting yourself last in the midst of busy days?

In Kuchinotsu, a quiet port town in Minamishimabara, Nagasaki,
once a gateway for Nanban trade and Christian culture,
the gentle scent of the sea, distant prayers, and traces of history still linger in the air.

Here, you can calm the mind through Zen practice,
nourish the body with fermented and seasonal meals,
and gently detox from within in a herbal bath.

This is not a place to do, but a place to simply be —
a retreat to return to yourself,
and begin a quiet journey of reconnecting with who you truly are.

What Is a Retreat?

The word retreat carries meanings such as “to withdraw,” “to step back,” and “to rest and restore.”
In today’s fast-paced, information-saturated world, taking time to do nothing on purpose has become an essential way to realign the mind and body.

A retreat is more than simply traveling or relaxing.
Its true purpose is to step away from the noise of everyday life and quietly reconnect with your inner self —
to gently reset the mind that has grown full with the demands of work, family, relationships, and social media.

At our retreat, where we welcome only one group per day, you can listen to the sounds of nature,
savor gentle fermented meals, and unwind in a herbal bath.
Within these simple moments lies the spaciousness — the margin of stillness — where you can begin to find yourself again.

For those who have always felt the need to “keep doing something,”
we invite you to experience the quiet richness of doing nothing at all.
